It had such a great concept, but seemed to fumble on the execution. AC2 seems to have gotten the execution just right.

I think part of the reason the first one was so boring was because a lot of the gameplay mechanics were the same at the end of the game as they were at the beginning. I've already put 5 hours in, and have only gotten 2 assassination targets, and am still getting more new core features to play with. Even so, there is plenty to distract you from your core mission if you get bored with it, however the addition of a good storyline has made following the main storyline much more enjoyable.

Re: Assassin’s Creed 2: First Impressions

I'm gonna give it a chance, although the first AC started great then got real boring real quick. There are two parts to a good sandbox game: Letting the player do whatever they want, and providing them with the tools and, more importantly, motivation to do so. It's all too easy to fall into "this is what works, so I'll keep doing it that way." I can honestly say I only did one assassination in the original AC the "right" way, and it was the most rewarding part of that game.

Having said that, the original game didn't do much to convince the player to try anything new. It pretty much let you fumble without consequence. If you were caught, you were pretty much a god in combat, so it didn't matter. While Ezio slowly becomes godlike in combat, the new game does give you motivation to try things in different ways, and gives you a lot of different goals (both long and short term) to distract you should the main quest line get boring. For example, last night I just learned that one of the side missions involves rebuilding the city and restoring the Auditore family's prestige.

As far as assassinations go, they removed the research element of it (that most people just ignored anyway), and instead let you go about your business your own way. I agree the original was a game of research-research-kill, that did get old after a while. Research has been completely removed from this game, but it is actually stronger for it. In its place is a ton of other content but a compelling enough story to keep you moving it forward.

Check it out when you get a chance. It definitely offers a hell of a lot more than Modern Warfare 2, Left 4 Dead 2, or any of these woefully short, charge-$60-for-5-hours-of-content-and-a-multiplayer-engine games.

Re: Assassin’s Creed 2: First Impressions

I liked Assassin's Creed as much as many other sand box games out there, fun at the beginning, but the missions no matter how complex they try and make them still feel redundant after awhile. I might get around to Assassin's Creed 2 sometime in the next couple of months but I am in no rush.

Re: Capitalism: A Love Story, Love, and Lucidity

Thanks, Joey! :) Glad you're enjoying them :)

Re: Capitalism: A Love Story, Love, and Lucidity

These are great

Re: Capitalism: A Love Story, Love, and Lucidity

These are great

Re: Long Jithgow: Dexter and Paranormal Activity

Re: Capitalism: A Love Story, Love, and Lucidity

Oh, no, I completely agree. In reality though, the Video Game industry is the youngest of the 4 entertainment industries (Books, Movies, Music, and now Video Games). We've been living with the "100 crappy releases for every 5 good ones" in all of those industries for years. I guess it's about time Video Games caught up!

Re: Capitalism: A Love Story, Love, and Lucidity

Wow, you're like a walking Nintendo wiki! ;)

I agree that it was a Good Thing for them to make the platform more open (especially considering how different the hardware is), and the number of titles is impressive. It seems, however, that the average quality has fallen drastically. There's so much chaff out there that it's hard to pick out the good games. Most of the titles you see when browsing the aisles are laughable: My Pets (or something like that), myriad mini-game/puzzle games...it's just ridiculous how much garbage is out there for the DS and Wii.

That's not to say there aren't good games for the systems, there certainly are. It's just so hard to find them. I wish Nintendo had done something similar to what MS has done to support indie developers. It makes much more sense to offer indie games in the online marketplace than in brick and mortar stores. Cost of distribution is MUCH lower, and the average user has a much easier time finding quality, production house titles. Putting community ratings on the indie titles (that are almost completely unlikely to get reviewed by a major gaming site or mag) makes picking out the gems easier as well.

Granted, by doing it that way Nintendo can't make the claim of "over 930 titles for the DS"

Re: Capitalism: A Love Story, Love, and Lucidity

The Gamecube was the last real system to have that official "Nintendo" seal quality control. While the Wii still have games that fit that bill, it's market is expanded. The Wii (more so than the gamecube) is catching a lot of the cross console titles. In addition, Nintendo made the Wii a lot easier to develop for than their systems in the past. They had to with such a "crazy" idea for a console system. It attracted more developers (including indies).

Although the Moon game is for the DS. There are over 930 titles for the DS. That's getting up there with the old Playstation and Playstation 2.

Re: The History and Review of the Fallout Series Part 1

Thanks Dogmeat, rushing this article did not pay off for me. Already added an annotation to the video and will correctly post the right picture shortly. It is funny that they looked similar in some pictures and not in others once you pointed that out. I gotta say, it had me pretty hooked. So far, I don't think this show is disappointing, especially for a pilot episode (which are usually especially groan-worthy)
I do have to agree with the priest character...his "transformation" was all a bit cliche, as is everything surrounding him. The Jesus statue shattering as the aliens arrive? Riiiiggghhhttt....

But you have to expect shows like this to explore those storylines. I think it's become synonymous with "edgy" which has become synonymous with "good" in the heads of the network execs. I can stomache it - for now - and who knows, maybe they'll actually do something good with that angle.

Re: MMO Matchup: Wars Vs.
